Memorial Service: 1 PM Thursday at New Harvest Fellowship Church, with procession and interment service to follow at Logan Chapel Cemetery (209 Logan Chapel Road, Jonesborough/Fall Branch).
Departments wishing to participate are requested to e-mail DLong1974@gmail.com to advise number of apparatus and personnel expected.
UPDATE (Monday, February 26, 2013 at 0730hrs): Further reports state that Schnepp responded with the Carter’s Valley VFD to Morning Star Road around 1700hrs on Sunday. He also responded to a mutual aid assist on a structure fire around 2100hrs in the Rogersville area. Chief Mike Yates said that Schnepp had remained at the station to staff the truck in case another emergency call came in. Schnepp reportedly texted another firefighter early Monday morning letting him know that he was going home.
Around 7AM Monday morning, Schnepp’s wife called 911 requesting an ambulance, and he later succumbed to an unknown medical condition. While the cause of death is unknown at this time, due to his recent response to the emergency calls, his death falls within the guidelines of a Line of Duty Death.
Hawkins County Emergency Management Agency director Gary Murrell announced Schnepp’s death to the Hawkins County commission at a meeting Monday night.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time, but will be announced by Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home.
The CVVFD also lost a founding member, Jack Gregg, who was 83 years old and reportedly passed away of natural causes this past week. Gregg still served as the Department Treasurer at the time of his death. Let us continue to keep the CVVFD brothers and sisters in our prayers during this time. I will post more information as it comes available.
After a response to a reported brush fire, a twenty year veteran of the department, David Schnepp, passed away. Schnepp was 43 years old and a resident of Hawkins County. This is the first Line of Duty Death for their department.
This hits close to home for me since part of the city limits of Kingsport are in Hawkins County. I will post more details as they become available. Please keep our brothers and sisters at Carters Valley VFD in our thoughts and prayers during these tough times.
