When I entered the fire service, I joined the volunteer department in my home town. I was still in High School and joined the local Explorer Post when it was implemented by my department. At the age of 16 when I slept on the cot in the ambulance at the fire station, I had no idea that I would fall in love with it and turn it into a career. Fast forward 10 years later, I travel an hour back to my hometown several times a month to still volunteer at the department that I started with. One thing was for sure…I didn’t enter this career for the money.
“In small towns everywhere, heroes don’t do it for the money.” – Hosed
Quite some time ago, I came across a few videos on YouTube that took a fictitious volunteer fire department in New Hampshire and showed the volunteer firefighters on calls and at the local pub. When I first watched them, I literally laughed my ass off because of some of the things in the videos that I could see actually happen or being said around the firehouse.
Hosed: The Movie have taken their web videos to the next level and are raising money to start turn them into an actual movie about the Effingwoods Fire Department. That’s where you come in…
The Kickstarter campaign has just 60 hours left, and at the time of this article being published, they have 286 backers that have donated a total of $71,000 dollars. They are looking to raise $200,000 to cover a lot of the pre-production costs and make an attempt to get this film into theaters.
There are many perks that go along with your donations! You can donate anywhere from $10 and up. The higher the donation, the more Effingwoods Fire Department gear you get. They are shipping out decals, patches, koozies, t-shirts, and a lot more.
I just joined the Effingwoods Fire Department as a Lieutenant! Have you donated? If not, there is still time to do so. Click here to donate now or use the widget on the side of the website.
