Just before 2PM today, I was getting ready to leave the house when I started hearing sirens. Throughout the next few minutes, the sirens continued to sound throughout the neighborhood. Due to the recent stretch of arson fires within a few blocks of my house, I figured something else was burning. Also, in Kingsport, on reported fires/alarms, only our first due engine responds emergency traffic. The other responding units typically respond routine until personnel arrive on-scene OR Dispatch advised that they are receiving multiple calls to confirm a working fire. It didn’t take but a few steps onto my front porch until I was able to see the dark column of smoke rising into the sky.
C-shift personnel responded to the Intersection of Pineola Avenue and Eastman Road for a reported structure fire. Units arrived on-scene to find a detached garage behind a residence with heavy fire and smoke showing. Fire apparatus positioned on Pineola and Eastman Road to stretch cross-lays across the yard to begin attacking the fire. A near-by hydrant was used across the street on Eastman Road and forced the roadway to be closed down while firefighters operated on the scene. Engine 2 was first-due with Engine 3, Fire-Rescue 12, Engine 1, Ladder 1 also assisting. The structure appeared to be a total loss as firefighters remained on-scene for some time extinguishing hot-spots.
