With FDIC fast approaching, the plans are slowly being released for the events that will be the “hot spots” for you to attend in Indianapolis, Indiana. Last week, I posted The 2014 Firefighter Turnout: An Event You Don’t Want to Miss! It seems that even though it is a great week of training, brotherhood, and fellowship, the week ends up being quite busy. For those of you who are going to be in the area, I strongly suggest that you take the time to try to attend some of the great events that are planned. Below are a few of the events that I will be attending:
Wednesday, April 9th, 2014: F.O.O.L.S. Brotherhood Bash. Several F.O.O.L.S. Chapter’s from across the country set up tables throughout a tent that is filled full of brothers, booze, and music. It’s always a very popular event for those of you who are already in town.
Thursday, April 10th, 2014: Courage and Valor 5K. White River State Park, 6PM. The C&V 5K is a great event for those of you who like to run, and it would be a good course for those of you who have been wanting to run in your first one. I participated in this event a few years ago, and registered today to run in it this year. The brothers from First Due Tackle are planning on running the event in their TECGEN gear, and I have plans to join them! Click here to register for the event. It’s $20 to register and that includes a t-shirt.
Thursday, April 10th, 2014: Stop, Drop, Rock ‘n’ Roll. Indiana Roof Ballroom. Over the past twelve years, Stop, Drop, Rock ‘n’ Roll has played an important part in helping us honor America’s fallen firefighters. It is a chance for firefighters to give back to the fire service and have fun at the same time. Through a small donation at the door you have all helped the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation honor and support the families of firefighters who have died in the line of duty. The evening, held in association with the Safety Components First Responders 911 Foundation, includes music, fun, food and refreshments, and the highlight of the event – the live auction. Firefighters from around the country bid on a variety of items ranging from a full set of turn out gear to a pearl necklace. More information is available online here. The cost is $15 and includes a buffet from 7p-9p.
Friday, April 11th, 2014: FDIC 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb. Lucas Oil Stadium. I also registered today for the 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb. This is an annual climb that is held in the Lucas Oil Stadium, and for the second time, they will be giving challenge coins to the first 343 to register for the climb. Whether you climb in full gear or workout clothes, you should still climb! It is a very emotional event, and registration cost is a $25 donation to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation. Click here to register for the event, there are around 145 spots still available. The climb starts around 1330hrs.
Friday, April 11th, 2014: 2014 Firefighter Turnout. Location TBA. The first annual Firefighter Turnout is going to be a hit! I have posted on the event in the article, The 2014 Firefighter Turnout: An Event You Don’t Want to Miss!. The event will have many of the fire service bloggers in attendance, and passes are available by visiting the sponsors booths on the show floor. RSVP for the event on Facebook by clicking here.
While you’re searching around the internet or registering for the events, be sure to check out some of the new gear from RIDE BACKWARDS. They just launched a new Hood tee that will help you show off your district! The shirts are screened with the text EASTSIDE, SOUTHSIDE, WESTSIDE, NORTHSIDE, and DOWNTOWN. The RideBackwards crew went back and added the DOWNTOWN shirt to the mix based on comments for you guys! Check out the shirts and grab the shirt for you and your crew!
