The Kingsport Firefighters Association Local 2270 recently announced that they would be participating in Operation Warm this year. Through the community-based partnership, Kingsport Firefighters will be raising money to purchase winter coats for children living in the City of Kingsport, Sullivan County, and Hawkins County. While the Kingsport Firefighter’s Auxiliary has worked hard to launch this new partnership, the community has jumped on board as well. A number of coats will be purchased and distributed to area children to ensure that they have the proper warm winter coats as the temperatures start to fall. The Kingsport Firefighters Association has already allocated funds to purchase several coats, but they are also relying on several fundraising events to assist in making a larger impact.

On October 4th, Crossfit: Shifty Powers partnered with the Kingsport Firefighters to host a fundraising workout to assist their efforts. The workout was open to members of the gym and the community with a suggested donation amount of $10. The workout was organized by members of the Kingsport Firefighters that attend the gym as well as Bill Cantrill and Willie Hamilton. The event was titled WOD for Warmth, and was a huge success. Nearly $300 in additional funds were raised by the donations that were given during the workout.

The workout consisted of:

2 rounds for Time:
Run 1 outside lap
5 pullups
10 Burpee Box jumps
15 SDHP (2pood/1.5 pood)
1 inside lap sandbag carry
Sledge tire hit: 30 hits
Sled drag 100m
Run 1 outside lap

Over 30 attendees took part in the workout in various heats that were held between 9AM and 12PM. Several members of the Kingsport Firefighters also participated in the workout, some of which completed it in turnout gear. This was a great event for the community to stand behind those who are on the front lines and help out those children in need.

Kingsport Firefighter's Michael Briscoe, Jared Lindholm, and Andrew Catron helped organize the event.
