KFD Firefighters Use Transitional Attack on Mobile Home Fire

barnetto2Around 1500hrs, Kingsport firefighters (B-shift) were alerted of a possible structure fire on Barnett Drive in the Rock Springs Community. As fire unit’s were responding, heavy smoke and flames were visible from a distance. Engine 6 arrived on-scene to report a mobile home with heavy smoke and fire visible from the D side, and the crew quickly stretched a 1 3/4 inch preconnect into service. While the E-6 Officer completed the 360, water was applied on the fire through the window on the D-side that the fire was venting out of. After the 360 was complete and additional crews were arriving, the E-6 crew entered the structure to continue to extinguish the fire.

barnetto2aAs additional units arrived on-scene, the RIT team was established, a water supply was established, and a second attack line was pulled to extinguish a small brush fire that was located around the exterior of the structure. The fire was quickly determined under control, and crews began salvage/overhaul operations. The structure was ventilated using a PPV fan, and crews remained on-scene extinguishing hot spots.

The KFD Fire Marshal’s Office responded to the scene.

Kingsport Police Department provided traffic control, and Sullivan County EMS were also on stand-by.
