Fire Suppression System Extinguishes Fire in Downtown Kingsport

palauto (4)Around 1200hrs, Kingsport Firefighters (C-shift) responded to the intersection of Revere Street and West Center Street in the downtown area at the Northeast State Pal Barger Regional Center for Automotive Programs building for a reported fire alarm. As units arrived on-scene, light smoke was visible from an exhaust vent in the roof of the structure. First arriving units assumed Command and started to locate the source of the smoke. Crews encountered smoke and fire extinguisher dust in the air upon entering the structure.

palauto (3)As additional units arrived, the roof of the building was laddered and crews immediately began checking for extension. It was quickly determined that the source of the heat/smoke was in a unit attached to the exterior of the paint booth room, where the fire had been extinguished by a fire suppression system. Crews made access to the exterior unit to ensure the fire was extinguished, and horizontal ventilation of the structure was started using a PPV fan. Once ventilation was complete and the crew had checked to ensure the fire was out, units cleared the call.

The Kingsport Fire Marshal’s Division also responded to the scene, and the Fire Marshal, Robert Sluss, stated “The fire suppression sysyem did it’s job and extinguished the fire quickly!”

Units responded: Chief 3, Engine 1, Engine 2, Engine 4, Engine 5, Fire-Rescue 12, Ladder 1, Safety, KFD Fire Marshal’s Division
