Firefighters Extinguish Apartment Fire in The Model City

bowaterapt4Around 1145hrs, firefighters in The Model City responded to a reported apartment fire in the 1900 block of Bowater Drive. Based on the dispatch information, all units responded emergency traffic due to multiple reports of smoke. Chief 3 arrived on-scene to report a 2 story multi-family dwelling with smoke showing and assumed Bowater Command.

bowaterapt1Engine 2: The Deuce arrived on-scene and quickly pulled a 1 3/4″ attack line to the apartment on fire. Crews made an aggressive interior attack, as additional crews arrived to check the second division for extension. Within minutes, the fire was under control and interior crews were requesting ventilation. A PPV fan was set at the entrance to the stairwell to help clear the smoke in the apartment. A primary and secondary search had been completed, and crews began salvage/overhaul operations. A water supply was established by a hydrant next to the first arriving apparatus.
