Weston Keeton was a 7-year old from Kingsport, TN that received a never-ending amount of support from firefighters across the country during his life here on Earth. He was diagnosed with pulmonary hypertension just after birth, and spent much of his life in and out of the hospital. By December of 2013, he had a heart and double-lung transplant. A few months later, his body fought hard to accept the transplanted organs and he was called home on March 23rd, 2014.
Weston’s mother, Julie Keeton, says that he was always interested in the firefighters and all of their equipment. While in the hospital in Philadelphia, the firefighter’s visited Weston on numerous occasions. As seen in the photo below, the IAFF Local dedicated the cover of their 2015 Calendar to the memories that they had with him.
The Keeton Family is now organizing the “Feed the Fire” event to return the favor to firefighters across the country. On March 23rd, individuals from across the country will make deliveries to these “adopted” firehouses. The firehouses will receive Gatorade, water, snacks, or even potluck meals. The Keeton’s have received an overwhelming amount of support from people all across the nation. As of right now, nearly 100 firehouses have been adopted.
