As the days count down, the anticipation grows in firefighters across the country! FDIC is always one of the highlights of the year for us. This year will not be any different, and quite possibly even bigger than before. I’ll get to that in a minute…
The schedule for my time in Indianapolis is filling up, and I hope to catch up with all of you at some point during the week. Unfortunately, my schedule doesn’t allow me to be in town early enough for the HOT classes, but I know several friends that were awarded the FDIC Scholarship to attend those classes. I hope to be able to catch those next year.
Wednesday, April 22nd
I will be arriving in Indy on Wednesday with The Fire Critic and Ironfiremen.com’s Cpt. Wines, and hope to settle in at the hotel before heading over to the Indy FOOLS Brotherhood Bash! This is always a great way to get the week started with a few drinks, great music, and catching up with brothers and sisters.
For those of you who haven’t attended before, the event is on the corner of Corner of Jackson and S. Meridian St. It kicks off around 1700hrs, and the entry is $5.00.
Thursday, April 23rd
On Thursday evening, I hope to “run” over to the Courage and Valor 5K. This is a 5k in the White River State Park just a few blocks from the Convention Center.
The 8th Annual FDIC Courage and Valor Fun Run will take place at the White River State Park located just a short walk from the Indianapolis Convention Center. The scenic, flat, fast course winds around the canal and provides runners with an absolutely safe (no traffic crossings) opportunity to enjoy a brisk fun run with their fellow firefighters. Timing and management of the run will be handled by Tuxedo Brothers for the more serious runners. It’s a chance for everyone to get out and show a commitment to good health and well-being. All proceeds go to help sponsor the Ray Downey Courage and Valor Medal and Award presented each year at FDIC. All are welcome to participate. Registration is $20.00 at the convention center Monday and Tuesday of FDIC (in Hoosier Hallway) and $25 on site at the race. All preregistered participants will receive T-shirts.
Following the run, I will be heading to the NFFF Stop, Drop, Rock and Roll. This is a fundraising event that has been going on for the last 13 years. A live auction raises money for the families of our fallen brothers and sisters. It is located in the Indiana Ballroom at 140 Washington Street.
Friday, April 24th
On Friday, you will be able to find The Fire Critic, Cpt. Wines, and myself back in the TECGEN PPE (#13109 from 9AM-10AM) and Viking Life-Saving Equipment (#1100 from 11AM-12PM) booths. Be sure to stop by and take a picture with us!
After lunch, I will be once again climbing in the NFFF 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb in the Lucas Oil Stadium! This is an event that I participate in each year, and I always encourage others to do the same. It still amazes me that out of 30k firefighters in attendance, we typically don’t have 343 participants of the climb until just before the start of the climb. You can register now online by clicking here.
For the last several months, we have been planning our event to show our appreciation for our fans, firefighters from across the world, and attendees of FDIC! If you were at the Firefighter Turnout event last year, you already know how to get there! The event will be hosted by The Fire Critic, Wooden Ladders and Iron Firemen, Firefighter Wife, and myself. The layout will be similar in that we will have FREE food, a Casino night for entertainment, Music, etc.
The First 500 People to Arrive Receive a FREE DRINK!
This event is being made possible by these sponsors:
More information will be released soon on the event! We hope to see you there!
Saturday, April 25th
I will be finishing up on the show floor by working in the Viking Life Saving Equipment Booth #1100 from 10A-11A w/ The Fire Critic and Cpt. Wines. Stop by and say “Hey!”
We typically spend Saturday evening to wind down and review our week. If you are still in town, be sure to let us know!
