KINGSPORT, Tenn. (WKPT) – Kingsport police and fire crews are investigating an early morning fire in downtown Kingsport.

The fire occurred in what was believed to be a vacant home at 746 East Sevier Avenue.

Fire Chief Craig Dye told 19 News that 2 people died inside the home as a result of the fire. It is not known at this time why the pair were inside the vacant house.

The cause of the fire is unknown and the investigation is ongoing. We will have more information tonight on our 6 pm newscast.

My thoughts and prayers go out to all of the first responders who responded to this call, and the families of those victims.

This is a reminder that NO HOUSE IS “VACANT”, until it’s been searched!

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the KFD Fire Marshal’s Office, Kingsport Police Department, and the TN State Fire Marshal’s Office.
